5 Best Beaches in the UK… So You Don’t Have to Go Abroad
As a contractor, you’ve probably been dreaming of wrapping up your latest project and jetting off to some of the best beaches in the world… perhaps Baia do Sancho in Brazil, Varadero Beach in Cuba, or Sicily's Spiaggia dei Conigli. But what happens if you spot an unbelievable contract for your next opportunity, and you’re left with less time that you thought to take a break and relax on the sands?
Believe it or not, you don’t need to have weeks or months between contracts in order to see some of the most incredible coastlines in the world, or unwind on the purest, whitest, and finest of sands. There are actually some pretty incredible beaches right here in the UK that you can visit in just one day!
Here are 5 of the best beaches in the UK, so you don’t have to go abroad:
1. Bournemouth Beach
Bournemouth Beach, on the country’s south coast, spans a whopping 7 miles, and it’s not a lie when they say they have the warmest sea waters in the UK; it’s actually due to the area’s own unique micro climate. With white sands, great views, the pier, and a whole host of zigzagging pathways up, down, and around the cliffs, a day out at Bournemouth Beach could be just what you need to feel rejuvenated.
2. Marloes Sands
Pembrokeshire’s Marloes Sands is a National Trust Site with a beautiful sandy bay nestled between rugged rocks. The curvature of the bay keeps the waters calm here, so it’s a great place for taking a dip if you get too hot sunbathing on the sand. The only thing to keep in mind here is that the beach can disappear entirely during high tide, so plan your visit carefully (and try not to get cut off by the tide!).
3. Runswick Bay
Runswick Bay Beach in Yorkshire perhaps isn’t the postcard perfect stretch of pearl white sands you’d find in the Caribbean, but if you’re more into fossil hunting and wildlife spotting then this is the beach for you. This spot is a firm favourite of canoeists, so if you fancy trying your hand at some watersports and doing something completely different to fixing bugs and developing apps, give Runswick Bay a try.
4. Barry Island
Made famous by TV show Gavin & Stacey, Barry Island Beach is more than just a bit of humour… it’s actually one of the best beaches in the UK. Just a stone’s throw from the Welsh capital of Cardiff, the golden sands here could easily be mistaken for those in Spain or Portugal, and perhaps best of all there’s a fantastic, lively seafront atmosphere to go along with it, with arcade machines and even mini golf!
5. Formby Beach
We’ve saved the best for last. If you want to really feel like you’re not in the UK anymore, pick a sunny day and make a trip to Formby Beach, just north of Liverpool. After strolling around the Red Squirrel Park (yes, really!), you can explore the vast sand dunes here, and the unusual sandy pine forests. If you’re up to it, you can even walk all the way down to Crosby Beach to see Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’.
While a holiday in some far off, exotic location would certainly be nice, there are simply some offers that you can’t refuse. So if you’ve found an amazing opportunity through our listings here at Contract Recruit, don’t let this ruin your dreams of some beachfront fun. The UK is much more stunning than you think!
